The Pearson BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design is described as one of the strongest and most distinctive Foundation programs, which will enable you to develop the skills and the portfolio that is required for most degree programs in Art and Design.

The various creative projects you undertake at Freshart College, will allow you to experience a range of ideas, materials, processes and technologies, enabling you to consequently identify and explore your preferred degree with the support of our experienced staff. Students find this course exciting, challenging and rewarding.

The course covers three distinct stages: Exploratory, Pathway and the Final confirmatory stage -FMP-.

  • In Term 1, students will realize the differences between art & design courses, what each course is about and the required skills they need to have. Students will be introduced to a wide range of creative activities to develop their practical and conceptual skills, to help them to make correct choices for future area of study. Through various practical projects, students will investigate ideas, materials, processes and technologies, which will give them an awareness of historical and theoretical contexts and develop their independent learning skills.
  • In Term 2, students will move towards the specialization that they wish to follow at degree level, and apply for their chosen degree. Students will learn to use professional equipment and materials according to their chosen area of specialization. Individual guidance is given from an experienced range of staff on the options best suited to their work and future ambitions.
  • In Term 3, students will design, prepare and produce work for an exhibition of their final major project.

 

During the program, students will learn the value of seminars and lectures, time-management, prepare their proposals and evaluate their performance. They will have personal tutor and many technical workshops available to attend.  

 

Whilst studying students will have the opportunity to have access to excellent facilities including: a Digital Media Centre, Photography studios and Darkroom, Fashion and Architecture studios, Wood/Metal workshops and other professional equipment.

 

The pathways covered in the Foundation Diploma include Fine Art, Graphic Design, Animation, Illustration, Fashion and Textiles, Art Photography, Product Design, Interior Design and Architecture.

Depending on what and how you would like to study, you can fill in an application form.

If you would like to apply for a full-time or a part-time study for Foundation course, please apply directly to the College.

Supporting documents to boost your application

You can include the following documents:

  • Details of your English Language competence, for example, GCSE, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOFEL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) tests or equivalent.
  • Certified copies of your school certificates and any other relevant qualifications you might have. A certified copy is a photocopy that has an original, official stamp of your school.
  • One reference.

 

You can apply for any course at any time before the course starts. The normal closing date for applications is 15th of May. Late applications are accepted but are not guaranteed the same level of consideration as applications made before 15th of May.

 

Application Review and Decision

We will normally provide applicants with a decision within 30 days of the closing date. In case this should take longer, you will be notified.

If your application is successful and you are not required to attend an interview, you will receive a formal offer letter and further information about your course.

 

Part-time study

A lot of our courses can be completed part-time. Therefore, you can fit your studies around your life and we will make sure we shape your schedule based on your time availability. The majority of part-time courses (as foundation course) start in October. Please apply as soon as possible to ensure we have your details before your course starts.

When considering applications for part-time study, we assess personal, professional and educational experience, preferably relevant, to ensure that the course is a good match for you.
